Tom’s Case

*Sigh*, why do they keep pushing the court date back? Until the day of the case, Tom Robinson is being held in the county jail. I had an ominous feeling, so I took an electric cable, a chair, and a light bulb and set off for the county jail and told Heck Tate to get a group of men and meet me in the bushes near the prison. Once I got there, i just sat outside the jail and just waited. After a minute passage of time, a group of men showed up, just as I expected. They asked to see the prisoner. I responded by saying he was asleep and not to bother him. A flash of insight dawned on me; these men were trying to take Tom. I even saw Walter Cunningham’s father in the mob. I tried to scare them off by saying Heck Tate was around. They then told me that Heck was way off in the woods and wouldn’t be back until the next morning. Heck had let me down. As I tried to think of a return, Scout, Jem, and Dill showed up. I was somewhat displeased when Jem refused to go home. But at the same time, i applauded him. And Scout struck up a conversation with Mr. Cunningham, telling him to tell Walter hello. And surprisingly, he reciprocated! And because of that, the mob departed. That and the fact that Heck showed up. It very much impressed how much of a good heart Scout has.
